PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing ultra short fibers, which comprises machining the end face of a fiber bundle prepared by burying many filaments and is suitable for producing the ultra short fibers. SOLUTION: This method for producing the ultra short fibers comprises unwinding multifilament yarns (y) from one or more pirns (P) each wound with the yarn (y), doubling the yarns (y), winding up the doubled yarns in a prescribed tension on a winding frame (10) on which the fibers constituting a fiber bundle (F) having a prescribed total fineness in a mutually parallel state form linear doubling areas, impregnating the fibers constituting the fiber bundles (F) with a thermally liquidized or gasified burying material, while surrounding the peripheries of the fiber bundles with the thermally liquidized or gasified burying material, cutting the buried fiber bundle portions to make the materials to be cut, and then machining the cut end face of each of the materials to produce the ultra short fibers having a fiber length of 0.005 to 1 mm.
