<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bumper with a built-in airbag capable of relieving the shock of collision by developing in the clearance thereof from a collided object before the collision of a vehicle is detected. <P>SOLUTION: This bumper 2 with the built-in airbag is separable into an upper half part 2a and a lower half part 2b, incorporates the airbag 4, and pinned to a cap 3 at the front end part thereof for engagement, and has a differential time driving mechanism 10. An ultrasonic sensor 8 is installed also as a collision sensor. When the ultrasonic sensor 8 detects a collision by a doppler effect, the differential time driving mechanism 10 is started immediately. The ultrasonic sensor first push out the engagement cap 3, and then separates the upper half part 2a and the lower half part 2b of the bumper 2 in upper and lower directions and develops the airbag 4 in the clearance thereof from the collided object. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
