PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tire position detecting device which prevents the erroneous detection of tire setting position even if a vehicle retreats, and a tire pressure monitoring system. SOLUTION: The tire position detecting device 3 receives tire rotation directional information transmitted by a detection device 1 set to each tire by radio and detects each tire setting position based on the tire rotation direction detected by the rotation directional information and the receiving sensitivity of the received radio signal. The tire position detection device 3, when it receives the rotation directional information and a reverse signal from the transmission, does not use the rotation directional information for detecting each tire setting position.
