PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of forming an image data by a dither processing using a dither matrix data when the image data is formed. SOLUTION: In the printer comprising an image forming controller, a printing engine and an engine controller for controlling the printing engine, the dither matrix data are arranged in the engine controller. The image forming controller is equipped with a dither acquiring means for acquiring the dither matrix data from the engine controller, a dither storing means for storing the acquired dither matrix data, a PDL analyzing means for analyzing a PDL data, reading the dither matrix data from the dither storing means when an intermediate density data are included, and performing the dither processing using the dither matrix data and forming the image data for printing.
