A device (810) for monitoring a physiological partuneter of a person includes a sensor device (830) for measi.tring a physiological parameter associated with the person; a processor (850) for processing measurements of the physiological parameter generated by the sensor device (810); a transcutaneous member iii:cluding a penetrating member for piercing the skin of thcs person; a housing (820) including an exit port (870) for receiving the distal end of the transcutaneous member upon injection of the distal end into the person and a mechanism for securing a tïrst wall of the housing to the skin of the person; and an injection activation device including a driving mechanism contacting the transcutaneous member for driving the penetrating member from a first position within the housing, through the exit port to a second position, external to the housing and into the skin.
