A retainer (14), made from resin, holds the rollers (13) between the outer ring (11) and the inner ring (12) of a rolling bearing (10). The retainer comprises of a pair of axially spaced annular portions joined by a columnar portion. Axial and radial lengths of a section of the annular portion and the pitch circle diameter of each roller satisfies a preset inequality. An independent claim is also included for a spindle apparatus for a machine tool.
