Monoazo dyes of the formula <FORM:1064596/C4-C5/1> wherein R is alkyl, alkenyl or hydroxy-, alkoxy- or halogeno-alkyl and R1 is alkyl, may be made by diazotization and coupling and are used to dye or print fibres of cellulose esters or aromatic polyesters.ALSO:Fibres of cellulose-2 1/2 - or tri-acetate or aromatic polyesters are dyed or printed using an aqueous dispersion of a dye of the formula <FORM:1064596/D1-D2/1> wherein R is alkyl, alkenyl or hydroxy-, alkoxy- or halogeno-alkyl and R/sv is alkyl. Dyeing or printing may be effected at 80-110 DEG C. in the presence of a carrier or at 110-140 DEG C. without a carrier or by padding or printing followed by a heat treatment at 180-230 DEG C. Examples are given.
