1,064,431. Nuclear power plant. UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION. July 15, 1964 [Aug. 15, 1963], No. 29392/64. Heading G6C. In an unmoderated nuclear reactor employing U-233 as the fuel the heat generated is converted directly to electric power in thermoelectric elements. Cooling is by conduction through the reflector and control is effected by the relative displacement of the two separate halves of the reactor. The core is formed of two solid hemispheres of U233 each supported in a beryllium reflector. The reflector halves are rotatable with respect to each other and a cam system causes lateral displacement of the two parts in correspondence with the rotational displacement. The core has a negative temperature coefficient of reactivity.
