PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To disclose a liquid crystal display device of a field sequential driving mode which can realize full color and can obtain a good contrast by driving at an optimized number of driving bits. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device of the field sequential driving mode divides one frame into the at least three sub-frames and displays R, G and B images for each sub-frame. The one frame is driven with the number of driving bits satisfying at least one of the conditions that 16 gray scales by each of R, G and B are realized and that the contrast ratio attains≥100. The optimal number of bits for driving the one frame is from 8 bits to 16 bits and the number of bits satisfying the 16 gray scales by each of R, G and B is≥8 bits, and the number of the bits satisfying the condition that the contrast ratio is≥100 is≤16 bits.
