PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner which can hygienically discard dust and dirt without splashing dust and dirt into the air even when dust and dirt and so forth in a dust collecting chamber are discarded in a trash bag or the like. SOLUTION: To dust and dirt in the dust collecting chamber 5, a fluid semi-solid substance 13 is thrown in and mixed. Thus, as dust and dirt are mixed with the fluid semi-solid substance 13, dust and dirt are taken into the fluid semi-solid substance 13. Especially, fine dust which is easy to splash at the time of discarding is being diffused in the space in the dust collecting chamber as well, and is easy to come into contact with the fluid semi-solid substance, and is easily taken in. In addition, the fluid semi-solid substance 13 removes fine dust adhering to the wall surface of the dust collecting chamber as well when coming into contact with the wall surface, and takes it in. Thus, even when dust and dirt are discarded in a trash bag or the like from the dust collecting chamber 5, dust and dirt keep solid by mixture with the fluid semi-solid substance 13, and the diffusion of fine dirt does not occur.
