PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotor whose reluctance torque is relatively large, which has excellent sensorless position detecting accuracy and small heat generation of a magnet, and which is strong in demagnetization. SOLUTION: The rotor 20 is provided with a rotor yoke 40 having permanent magnet pieces 60 which are respectively fixed to a plurality of magnet insertion holes 43 provided to the outer peripheral part, a recess 44 which is provided between mutually adjacent permanent magnet pieces 60, 60, and a protruding part 46 which is radially externally protruded to the recess 44. The inequality 0.3 <β/α< 0.5 is established between the included angleαof the two sides connecting both external ends A, A' of the recess 44 with the center axis O of the rotor yoke 40, and the included angleβof the two sides connecting both external ends B, B' of the protruding part 46 and the center axis O of the rotor yoke 40.
