SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR THE DETECTION OF BRAIN RESPONSE

The present invention relates to a system and method for the detection of brain activity in response to a chemical stimulus. The method comprises (a) implantation of an electrode in the brain of a subject, and (b) measuring the amplitude of relevant brain waves before and after the administration of the chemical stimulus. The brain wave measurements may be coupled to a brain imager for a final evaluation of the sensational level. The chemical stimulus is preferably a compound or a mixture of compounds of microbial, bacterial or phytochemical origin. The chemical stimulus that gives a desired change may be added to a pharmaceutical, food, beverage, cosmetic or other industrial product for human or animal consumption or use in order to increase the brain sensational level. This is particularly advantageous in taste and smell dysfunctions.
