PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fixing device capable of restraining temperature fall on the back surface side of sheet material at a fixing nip part after the sheet material passes therethrough, achieving a stable fixing function even in the case of high-speed fixing or the consecutive fixing of several pieces of sheet material and realizing the shortening of warming-up time. SOLUTION: The fixing device is equipped with a thermal fixing roll 1 having an elastic layer 1c on its surface, incorporating a heating source 1a and rotatably supported, a heat resistant belt 3 arranged to be opposed to the roll 1 and movably supported, and belt supporting members 2 and 4 movably supporting the belt 3 while pressing or energizing it toward the roll 1. The surface of at least either the supporting member 2 or 4 is composed of material whose heat conductivity is higher than that of the belt 3, and the belt 3 is wound round the roll 1 at a specified angle so as to form a fixing nip by the supporting members 2 and 4.
