PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linearly drive device which is smoothly stably operated for a long period and which has an excellent torque performance and to provide a retaining piece. SOLUTION: The linearly drive device includes a linear guide 10 having a guide rail 1 extended axially, a slider 2 axially relatively moving under the guidance of the guide rail 1, a plurality of balls B, B rolling as the slider 2 relatively moves between the guide rail 1 and the slider 2, and the retaining piece 30 interposed between the adjacent balls B and B. The retaining piece 30 is composed of hydrothermally synthesized ceramics. Thus, since a wear resistance of the retaining piece 30 is excellent, the linear guide 10 is stably smoothly operated for the long period.
