PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ball screw having a long service life of a bearing and capable of preventing a raceway face and a ball surface from being damaged. SOLUTION: A surface hardening treatment is performed on a screw shaft of a ball screw, the raceway face of a nut and the surface of the ball hardened by quenching, tempering and the like to form a compound coating film such as oxide and carbide of metal of a material different from a base material on a functional surface of a component, for example, by deposition, electroplating and the like. Further a surface metamorphosing treatment to provide the surface with fine arc-shaped voids is performed with the surface hardening treatment to improve the surface function of the component. Further a lubricant suitably used for the ball screw on which the surface hardening treatment and the surface metamorphosing treatment are performed, is specified. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
