PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a nozzle adjustment without depending on manual operation and to make the nozzle adjustment without causing damage on the machine side or workpiece side. SOLUTION: This wire electric discharge machine 1 in a form of obtaining the upper face position of the workpiece is provided with a wire electrode supply means 2, a wire guide 3, a nozzle 4 mounted to the wire guide, a wire guide driving means 5, a table 6 for placing the workpiece, a table driving means 7 and a control device 10 for controlling machining according to a command, and machines the workpiece by driving the table while supplying the wire electrode according to the command and supplying a machining fluid from the nozzle. The wire electric discharge machine 1 is further provided with a wire electrode heading means for heading a wire electrode, a wire supply amount measuring means for obtaining the supply amount of the wire electrode, and a wire detecting means for detecting contact between the wire electrode and the workpiece.
