PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method by which coating omission is prevented even on a recessed and projecting pattern, a coating material hardly pools excessively in the recessed part of the recessed and projecting pattern and excellent coating efficiency is attained. SOLUTION: In the coating method having excellent coating efficiency, the coating is carried out using a sponge roll (1) on which a cloth is wound and air is blown toward the recessed part to scatter the coating material pooling in the recessed part in the coating of a base material having the recessed and projecting surface. The scattered coating material hits the sponge roll (1) on which the cloth is wound to be recovered.
