PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus whereby an image obtained by exposure can be visually recognized during a long exposure time period. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus reads pixel signals from nearly the entire pixels of an imaging element for a prescribed period during a period of main exposure in a setting state of a long-second monitoring mode, summates the pixel signals at every reading, and displays an image configured by the summated pixel signals on an LCD. When the completion of the main exposure is instructed by full depression of a shutter button 9 again by a photographer or it is discriminated that a proper exposure is obtained on the basis of a pixel value of the summated pixel signals configuring the image, the imaging apparatus uses a newest summated image stored in a second image storage section for a recording image.
