PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display device capable of switching to an optimum video format according to a connected image receiver. SOLUTION: After an OSD controller 4 draws an OSD and a superimposing unit 3 displays the OSD, a user imparts an indication to a CPU 5 with an input means such as a remote controller 10 to output a plurality of different video formats without conversion or output 480I, 480P, 1080I, and 720P signals in order by converting the formats, and they are outputted from a D terminal through a video output circuit 7 and connected to the image receiver 9. An audio output circuit 8 performs switching by the CPU 5 to the output of a sound source and connects it to the image receiver 9. With the audio output, the user is inquired of about whether video display is possible and the the user is able to select the optimum video format with which a connected monitor can display video by the input means such as the remote controller 10 in response to the inquiry voice.
