<p>Light-emitting chromophores (lumophores) that emit different colored light may be covalently attached to a nanoparticle core such as a silsequioxane. The light emission profile of the resulting lumophore-functionalized nanoparticle is the sum of the light emission of all of the lumophores attached to the nanoparticle. In some embodiments, the lumophore-functionalized nanoparticle is white light-emitting.</p>
