PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a private branch exchange capable of improving the efficiency of an extension registering operation without newly performing a complicated procedure. SOLUTION: When an IP-PBX (private branch exchange) 1 is notified of an authentication request signal and distinguishes that an authentication mode is a password authentication mode, the IP-PBX 1 refers to a password database 121 and determines whether a password in a received signal is a password for extension registration. When the password is determined to be a password for extension registration, the IP-PBX 1 writes a MAC (media access control) address, an extension number and a service class into a MAC address database 122 included in station data 12, and writes the IP address of an IP extension terminal 2 into an IP terminal information database 131 included in temporary storage data 13.
