PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging device capable of displaying an image of an object in real time for a period of exposure operations and obtaining a beautiful recorded image. SOLUTION: A plurality of pixels in an imaging element of the imaging device are separated into pixels for a live view (LV) image and pixels for a recorded image in a setting state of a long-second monitoring mode. A pixel signal outputted from the pixels for the LV display is read for a period until full depression of a shutter button is released, and the live view image is generated by using this pixel signal. Two pixel lines vertically adjacent to each other are grouped as one set as to the pixels of the imaging element 11 arranged in a form of a matrix. The pixel signals of a plurality of sets of the pixel lines arranged every other set are used for recording, and the pixel signals of some of the pixel lines among the pixel lines of the remaining sets are used for the LV display.
