PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head which reduces both size of an upper core layer, and value of resistance and heat release by enlarging a cross section of a toroidal coil. SOLUTION: A second coil segment 41 formed on top of the upper core layer 39 via an insulation layer 40 is also formed on top of a back gap layer 34. Thus, the value of resistance and the heat release and reduced by enlarging the size of width in height direction for the second coil segment 41 and enlarging the cross section, and the size of the upper core layer 39 and the lower core layer 29 is made equal to, or smaller than, the conventional one at the same time.
