PROCESS TO JOIN CARBON BASED MATERIALS TO METALS AND ITS APPLICATIONS

In a method to join a carbon based material to a metal, wherein the metal is put in contact, at the molten state, with the carbon based material surface, said surface is modified by forming a surface chromium or tungsten carbide layer. The method can be applied to join fiber reinforced carbon matrix composites to copper or copper alloys, particularly to produce a heat sink in a nuclear reactor.
