<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively carry our an edge enhancement process for an image read from a manuscript. <P>SOLUTION: The printer includes an image reading unit for reading an image from a manuscript and generating image data, and a printing unit for printing, based on the image data generated by the image reading unit. In the printer, there are provided a first memory to which the image data generated from the image reading unit is stored, a second memory to which the image data read from the first memory is stored and which is separate from the first memory, and an edge enhancement processing unit for carrying out edge enhancing processing for the image data read from the second memory.
