PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display with higher contrast in a display device utilizing the osmosis phenomenon of an electroosmosis liquid. SOLUTION: A transparent porous layer 11 is laminated on a colored porous layer 10 via a first spacer 20 and a space 14, a transparent substrate 12 is laminated on a transparent porous layer 11 via a spacer 21, and a potential difference is applied between a front electrode 31a and a back electrode 31b by a potential difference applying part 35 so as to apply electric force to the electroosmosis liquid L1 and to move the electroosmosis liquid L1 between the colored porous layer 10 and the transparent porous layer 11. When the electroosmosis liquid L1 is permeating the transparent porous layer 11, the transparent porous layer 11 turns into transparent and the colored porous layer 10 is displayed through the transparent porous layer 11 and a space 14. When the electroosmosis liquid L1 is discharged from the transparent porous layer 11, the transparent porous layer 11 becomes opaque and the transparent porous layer 11 is displayed.
