PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treatment device where not only a linear material but also a belt-like material can be made to reciprocate spirally for a plurality of times between a pair of guide rolls and surface treatment can efficiently be performed thereto. SOLUTION: The surface treatment device is provided with: a surface treatment source 7 where belt-like materials S continuously running from an unwinding reel 2 to a winding reel 3 are subjected to surface treatment; and a pair of guide rolls 4 and 5 where a plurality of roll parts 4a to 4d and 5a to 5d for guiding the running of the belt-like materials S are superposed in an axial direction. The belt-like materials S are made to run spirally between the pair of guide rolls. In the guide rolls 4 and 5, axial center lines 42 and 52 are arranged in parallel with each other, and also, the respective center lines of the belt-like materials S1 and S2 mutually running in the opposite directions between the pair of guide rolls are made parallel with each other. Further, in the second guide roll 5, the rotary axes 54a to 54d of the respective roll parts 5a to 5d include the axial center line 52 and are tilted by a prescribed angleθin the plane vertical to the center line of the belt-like material S2, and when the belt-like material S revolves round the guide rolls 5, the material is deviated by a spiral one pitch owing to the tilting.
