PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new polymerization catalyst other than an antimony compound, and to provide a polyester that is applicable to a fiber for clothing, a fiber for industrial materials, various types of films, various moldings such as sheets, bottles and engineering plastics, and paints and adhesives by manufacturing the polyester using the new catalyst. SOLUTION: The polyester polymerization catalyst comprises a solid solution consisting of an aluminum compound and a magnesium compound as a main component. The polyester manufactured by using the polyester polymerization catalyst is obtained.
