An inverter circuit wherein semiconductor switching elements exhibit a reduced heat loss and a reduced noise. A resonant high frequency heating apparatus comprising a DC power supply; a series circuit consisting of two semiconductor switching elements connected in parallel with the DC power supply; a series circuit having a capacitor and a primary winding of a leakage transformer that are connected across one of the two semiconductor switching elements; and driving means for driving the two semiconductor switching elements; wherein the driving means includes a variable dead time producing circuit that keeps the dead time constant for a range below a predetermined frequency and that abruptly increases the dead time for a range above the predetermined frequency.
