The closing element (1) has a deforming member and a resilient holding down member (14) which after each closing process is temporarily held in a lower position relative to the position of the centring element (11). In this position it can be moved over a stationary crown cork stripper and the centring element can then move back into its cork transfer position. After the closing process the bottle is removed and the holding member moves into a lower position where it is held for a short time and after moving over the stripper moves back to the cork transfer position.
