A gap of width B is arranged between a cylinder (01,02) and a guide member (04,07). The machine has at least one actuator (21-29) for displacing the guide member to allow the gap width to be adjusted. A device measures the thickness of a printed item and transfers the results to a control unit for determining settings for the gap width.
