<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize high speed drive of a light emitting element by controlling a current value of bias current applied to the light emitting element. <P>SOLUTION: The optical communication apparatus comprises an input block for inputting a transmitting signal, a light emitting element for outputting the light beam, a modulation current drive for applying the modulation current generated from the transmitting signal to the light emitting element, a bias current drive for applying the bias current to the light emitting element, and a bias signal control block for controlling the timing of applying the bias current. The bias signal control block increases the bias current up to a first setting value after passage of the first constant time from the timing when the transmitting signal falls, and generates the bias control signal for controlling the bias current to be reduced up to a second setting value after passage of the second constant time from the timing when the transmitting signal rises.
