PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a part attitude discriminating method with less misdetection which can ensure large variation in the light intensity of detection light corresponding to a part attitude, utilizing a plurality of detection light types corresponding to the part by defining an incident range of illumination light with respect to the part. SOLUTION: The part attitude discriminating method is to detect an attitude of a part 10, in which a material having light permeability is exposed on an area of the external surface of the part and is characterized by discriminating the part attitude from the amount of the detection light irradiated along the detection axis by irradiating illumination light to the part through an optical opening 1s, which is open to a part transit area on a carrying surface 1a on which the part is conveyed and configuring the detection axis 3x of the detection light, in a direction which is out of the range of an irradiation axis 2x of the illumination light.
