PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fermentation and decomposition apparatus which eliminates the risk of infringement of privacy and occurrence of criminal incidents attributed to entrance of workers into a building and makes maintenance easy. SOLUTION: The fermentation and decomposition apparatus 20 is composed of a treatment tank 21 having an aperture through which organic wastes are introduced, a stirring unit 22 which is placed inside the treatment tank 21 and stirs the organic wastes and a driving unit 23 which is attached to the treatment tank 21 and drives the stirring unit 22. A compost-removal aperture which enables discharge of compost to the outside of the treatment tank 21 is formed so that it projects from a front wall 43 of the treatment tank and opens at the top, and an opening/closing lid 103 is attached to a casing 102 for compost removal.
