ETALON ASSEMBLY TUNED BY APPLYING COUNTERBALANCED COMPRESSION FORCES

A compressive force is applied to a conventional air-spaced etalon filter (10) to fine tune the thickness of the spacers (22, 24) to a precise and uniform optical length (L'). The etalon is coupled to a housing device (32, 36) capable of adjusting the thickness of each spacer (22, 24), thereby tuning the etalon (10) to the desired filter wavelength. The resulting assembly (30, 60, 70) is permanently set to the desired parameters for direct use in optical applications.
