The method involves contacting an edge of a sheet of material with a set of rollers. A friction force is applied against the edge of the sheet in one direction, so as to move the sheet until another edge of the sheet reaches a registration position. A motor drives the rollers and advances the sheet in another direction orthogonal to the former direction. An independent claim is also included for an apparatus for handling a sheet material e.g. paper.
