<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a headphone device for reproducing stereophonic sound which can reproduce at a low cost a multichannel sound field where front and back sounds are separated without a special amplifier despite its conventional size, by utilizing pinnae's functions of collecting sound and recognizing directions; and which can reproduce a natural stereophonic sound field of high quality and with extensiveness where an image is not localized in the parietal region or inside the head. <P>SOLUTION: When sound waves from a speaker are emitted to a part of a pinna, not to the entire pinna, a difference in reflection or absorption of sound waves generated in the pinna because of a different shape of the part of the pinna occurs, according to an angle to the top of the sound wave emission axis. This difference becomes information on sound direction for the eardrum. The speaker sound from the sound wave emitting axis which becomes an angle of incidence of different sound waves to the arrow-like side of the head is localized as a virtual sound source from different directions. A natural and extensive stereophonic sound field can be reproduced where an image is not localized in the parietal region or inside the head, only by the headphone without image localization processing by a special sound electric signal processing. It is also possible to reproduce a surrounding sound field where sounds in the front and back directions are audible by separating them. The headphone device can not only reproduce a 5.1 channel, but also cope with the channel numbers more than a 7.1 channel which are anticipated to increase in the future. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
