<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which downtime or a decrease in productivity can be prevented by enabling an operator to decide in advance whether image adjustment can be carried out or not when carrying out image formation. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has an image adjustment means and an image control means for maintaining image quality. The image forming apparatus enables an operator to select whether the image adjustment can be carried out or not through an operating means or a printer driver means when carrying out the image formation. Further, image adjustment can automatically be inhibited when a part of job is carried out. Alternatively, the image adjustment is automatically inhibited when image formation is carried out in the mode in which the amount of toner used for the image formation is decreased. Whether the image adjustment can be carried out or not is preliminarily determined according to the image formation modes.
