<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a scattered toner and dust from coming into an exterior case holding an optical writing unit and also prevent deterioration in quality of the formed image caused by the scattered toner and dust coming into the exterior case and adhering to an optical writing device. <P>SOLUTION: The optical writing unit 20 generating a laser beam for optically writing is held in the exterior case 21. The case is provided with a slit 23 through which the laser beam passes. An air is blasted into the exterior case 21 by a blasting means 22, and the air is made blown off from the slit 23. The occurrence of the scattered toner and dust coming into the exterior case 21 from the slit 23 is prevented by the air blowing off from the slit 23.
