PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recording apparatus which does not cause an increase in its size, even in the use of a plurality of caps, and which can effectively remove residual ink on an ejection port surface and in the cap in cleaning processing for a recording head. SOLUTION: A cleaning mechanism part 204, which is constituted in such a manner that a cap slider 7 is moved by utilizing the movement of a carriage 6 so that the cap 1 can abut on the recording head 3, is provided with a cam member 133 which has abutting parts 133a and 133b and which can move in a direction crossing the moving direction of the carriage. The carriage and the cap slider are further moved toward the abutting parts of the cam member in a state wherein the recording head is capped, so that the cap is opened by the abutting parts.
