A hydraulic jack comprises a fixed piston 2 and a movable cylinder 1, the latter housing a hollow spool valve T which is slidable on a guide rod 5 under the control of a manual operating lever 4. In the neutral position shown, jack chambers 17, 19 communicate with exhaust port 24 via passages &c. 16, 14, 20 and 22 and 18, 15, 21 and 23 respectively. When valve T is moved to the right, grooves 15, 21 are cut off from each other and a shoulder 25 on rod 5 unseats a valve 12 which is one of a pair of such valves 11, 12 located in a chamber 8 in valve T, thereby admitting fluid from an inlet 10 to chamber 19 via chamber 8 and passages 7, 18. Consequent rightward movement of cylinder 1 reseats valve 12 and brings grooves 15, 21 back into communication with each other. A similar sequence occurs when valve T is moved to the left. A shoulder defined by diameters d2, d3 is provided at each end of rod 5 and the spaces 27, 28 there around communicate with passages 6, 7 via longitudinal passages 29, 30. These shoulders provide "feel" for the operator. A force providing "feel" is also generated on valves 11, 12.</p> |
