The mill comprises two identical length rails joined together to form a cross each rail has a weight on its front side which can move from one end of the rail to the other. The weight is secured to a fixed point along the length of the rail via a flexible wire. Rotating the cross about its horizontal axle causes work on one side of the rotation axis to be greater than the (negative) work on the other side, so that energy is created by gravity.
