The method involves selecting a network breakdown consisting of at least two cells (4), whereby at least one boundary node (7) is present in each cell that is connected via at least one boundary edge to a boundary node of another cell, planning optimal partial routes within each cell between the boundary nodes in the cell, forming a reduced network for network breakdown by replacing the optimal partial routes with route edges (10) and selecting the network breakdown whose associated reduced network gives a minimal or maximal value for a defined criterion. An independent claim is also included for a data medium containing a suitable breakdown for route planning.
