The blowoff valve has axial inwardly undulating grooves (14) formed in the outer surface of a piston rod (2), or similar radially outward groove formed in a bore that extends through the piston rod or extension (8). The groove can be closed off at the compression end by a spring-loaded valve. The piston rod or extension is formed hollow to accommodate operating components (13). The piston (3) of a hydraulic dashpot travels back and forth on the end of the piston rod. The piston partitions a fluid charged cylinder (1) into two compartments (6,7), and is provided with breaches (4) and shock-absorbing valves.
