PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a soil improvement method where purification treatment at the original position is made possible without causing waste soil, and further, prescribed ground strength can be obtained by feeding a required amount of iron powder or oxide iron powder to a prescribed amount of soil. SOLUTION: The soil improvement method comprises: a step where soil is excavated in such a manner that an excavation member whose tip part is provided with a cutting member 1 and at least one injection tube is rotated and is allowed to rotate and descend by a support means 5 supporting the same so as to be rotated and also freely be ascended and descended, and soil is excavated; and a step where slurry obtained by dispersing iron powder or iron oxide powder comprising magnetite (Fe<SB>3</SB>O<SB>4</SB>) and calcined gypsum into water or a gas obtained by dispersing the iron powder or iron oxide powder and the calcined gypsum into compressed air or nitrogen is sprayed toward soil around the excavation member from at least one injection tube while rotating the excavation member.
