[Also in Division F2] A needle bearing has an outer race (1), Fig. 4 (not shown), formed without removal of the material, the race (1) having an integral shoulder (2) which engages one set of ends of needles (5), and having a portion (4) of reduced thickness beaded-over so as to retain a ring (7) which abuts the other set of ends of the needles (5). Both the race (1) and the ring (7) have a conical abutment surface (3). A cage (6) is provided. In a method of making the bearing, a round metal blank is formed into a tubular member by drawing or pressing and the portion (4) is reduced by drawing or pressing. |
