<p>The device has a material spooling device, a first gripping device for linear feed of the leading end of the material and transferring it to the spooling device, a second gripping device for accepting the leading end from the spooling device and for linearly moving it away from the spooling device. The first gripping device grips the trailing end and levels off at a defined difference of the ends in combination with the second gripping device. The device has a spooling device (150) on which the material can be wound, a first gripping device (130) for linear feed of the leading end (201) of the material and transferring it to the spooling device and a second gripping device (140) for accepting the leading end from the spooling device and for linear movement of the leading end away from the spooling device. The first gripping device grips the trailing end (202) of the material and levels off at a defined difference of the ends in combination with the second gripping device.
