The invention relates to a bearing shell (5, 14) comprising a spherical bearing surface for a spherical joint, preferably for use in chassis suspensions or steering mechanisms of motor vehicles. Said spherical joint essentially comprises a joint housing and a bearing journal made up of a spherical surface and a mortise part, which is arranged in such a manner that it can pivot and move with the spherical surface inside the spherical bearing surface of the bearing shell which is secured in the housing joint. According to said, a continuous fibrous tissue is embedded in at least one partial area of the thermoplastic material of the bearing shell (5, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15). The invention also relates to a method for the production of said bearing shell which is made of thermoplastic material. A bearing shell blank (1, 9) comprising essentially a circular outer contour is mechanically machined from a board-shaped thermoplastic semifinished material, wherein a continuous fibrous tissue is embedded, and in a subsequent machining step, which finally configures the bearing shell (5, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15), a spherical bearing surface is endowed thereon by heating the thermoplastic material to above the melting temperature thereof and subsequently mechanically deforming the bearing shell blank (1, 9).
