The modification unit includes a yarn heater (1), a cooler (2), a twister (3) and delivery system (4) arranged in two straight segments, one with the heater and the other with the remaining components, and with one of the segments lying parallel and continuous with a vertical space. The unit is arranged so that the yarn being treated travels in a more or less vertical direction in an I- or U-shaped configuration.
