To form a composite article of devitrified glass, up to 40% by volume of which is in the crystalline phase, and ceramic, glass or metal, a body of devitrified glass or having an outer layer of devitrified glass is placed in contact with a body of the ceramic, glass or metal and heat and pressure are applied to bond the two bodies.
